I've just abandoned watching the last episode of the new 'Reggie Perrin' on Sky+ as I noticed some paint drying next door ...
It set me thinking. Is there a single re-make that the BBC has done in the last 10 years or so that has been better than the original? I couldn't think of one ...

No Peter, neither can I! The truth is, the makers of TV drama are so bogged down by PC rules & regs & formular driven logic, that they cannot any longer create decent re-makes or even decent new drama. I've just got hold of a DVD of Jamaica inn, the 1983 HTV production - what a well made Drama that was. I'vs said it before, the whole of TV production needs to shut down for a year, go away & re-think how to entertain the public. I liked the 'new' Auf Weidersehn Pet's. Maybe not as good as the originals but close IMO.
And possibly Doctor Who as well, although that is more of a continuation than a remake.

Never watched AWP so I can't comment on that.
As to Dr Who, well ...
The sets don't shake and the CGI is well done but the plots??? Dr Who plots of old were often silly but they had, more often than not, a core of decent sci-fi in them. The last episode was like a mix of Pitch Black and Eastenders.
And the monsters; I can see the need to bring back faves like the Daleks and the Cybermen but every season, twice? Not only that but the new monsters just seem to rotate through the episodes. They used to have new villains/monsters on every week...
And the new assistants - don't get me started. Give me Liz Sladen in a quarry any day!
